A little history...
Last year we created an exciting fund raising program for our
local schools which promotes creative writing skills and supports
communities.
We engaged author
Sarah Rafael Garcia, from the
AuthorsDen.com community to write the first chapter of a book and then
allowed the student writers to collaborate on the subsequent chapters.
The students were grouped into
writing teams with the responsibility to write individual
chapters. The students collaborated in their writing teams,
excelled in their works and we published “Echoes of Ocean Trails”
this past June. This project has given the students the power of
creativity in a tangible product that they will take with them in
perpetuity.
As we delivered the books to the students, the looks on their
faces said it all; they were all beaming with pride! We want to
take this feeling and this project to other deserving students and
schools districts across the United States.
This experience encouraged intense creativity, open teamwork and
the power of giving back to the community. The AD1436 Foundation
is contributing all book profits to the school district in order
to further promote their creative writing programs. In our
competitive academic environment, how many students can add the
label of "Published Author" to their college application? This
will be the legacy of every student involved and something they
can always call their own.
The goal is three-fold:
- Provide students a creative outlet
that encourages teamwork,
promotes leadership and ownership.
- Develop writing skills that are
critical to success in today’s workplace and;
- Gives schools an on-going
fundraising/revenue stream through the
sales of these wonderful student created novels.
Now that this initial novel project is
complete, we are rolling out this program to other school districts
in the United States.
